Health Sciences Student Symposium | Symposium d’étudiant en sciences de la santé «Recherche, Clinique et Société — construisons ensemble les pratiques de demain»

Our Lab embraces the conviction that science should not be reserved for the few, but can be a lantern lighting the way for all. It was in this spirit that we participated in the interdisciplinary student knowledge translation event, "Recherche, Clinique et Société - construisons ensemble les pratiques de demain", held on November 10 at the Campus MIL, Université de Montréal. The event, conceived BY students FOR students  featured a series of activities, including café style discussions, a conference, and oral and poster presentations. Student presenters received very insightful feedback from individuals representing the public along with the academic community on how best to communicate their projects to a wide audience. We congratulate the 23 participants from a variety of health science programs for taking part in the feedback exercise! In all, about 70 people took part in the event. The Lab is proud to be among them, and to have actively contributed to the event's success!

We congratulate our members Tania Sabatino, co-coordinator of the event, Dr. Shalini Lal, moderator of the discussion cafés, Nagi Abuzeid, oral presenter for his scientific project, and Samuel St-Amour and Orlando Lopez, jury members for the oral and poster presentations.

Notre laboratoire est convaincu que la science ne doit pas être réservée à une minorité, mais qu'elle peut être une lanterne qui éclaire le chemin de tout·e·s. C'est dans cet esprit que nous avons participé à l'événement interdisciplinaire étudiant de vulgarisation , «Recherche, Clinique et Société - construisons ensemble les pratiques de demain», qui s'est tenu le 10 novembre au Campus MIL de l'Université de Montréal. L'événement, conçu PAR et POUR les étudiant·e·s comprenait une série d'activités, notamment des cafés-discussions, une conférence et des présentations orales et par affiche. Les étudiant·e·s qui ont présenté leur projet ont reçu des commentaires très pertinents de la part de représentant·e·s du public et de la communauté universitaire sur la meilleure façon de communiquer leurs projets à un large public. Nous félicitons les 23 participant·e·s provenant de différents programmes des sciences de la santé pour avoir pris part à cet exercice de rétroaction! Au total, environ 70 personnes ont participé à l'événement. Le laboratoire est fier d'être parmi elles et d'avoir contribué activement au succès de l'événement !

Our YMHTech team had the honor of attending the “Women and Children's Health Research Institute Day 2023” on October 18th held in Edmonton, Alberta, which was supported by DIVERT. Our team was inspired by Drs. Samina Ali and Elise Kammerer who are experts in integrating knowledge translation strategies into health research. Additionally, Dr. Saleem Razack led a workshop on promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism in biomedical research through case discussions. The keynote address by Dr. Bernard Thébaud on stem cell-based and gene therapies for critically ill newborns was genuinely enlightening. Our team members are grateful for this training opportunity, which allowed them to reflect on various issues as scientists.

Congratulations to our post-doc Hajin Lee and our Master’s student Nagi Abouzeid for participating in this wonderful workshop!

Notre équipe SMJ-techno a eu l'honneur de participer à la journée de recherche "Women and Children's Health Research Institute Day 2023" qui s'est tenue le 18 octobre à Edmonton, Alberta, avec le soutien de DIVERT. Notre équipe a été inspirée par les Dres Samina Ali et Elise Kammerer, toutes deux expertes dans l'intégration des stratégies d'application des connaissances dans la recherche en santé. En outre, le Dr Saleem Razack a animé un atelier sur la promotion de l'équité, de la diversité, de l'inclusion et de la lutte contre le racisme dans la recherche biomédicale par le biais de discussions de cas. Enfin, le discours du Dr Bernard Thébaud sur les thérapies géniques et à base de cellules souches pour les nouveau-nés gravement malades a été très instructif. Les membres de notre équipe sont reconnaissants de cette opportunité de formation, qui leur a permis de réfléchir à diverses questions en tant que scientifiques.

Our YMHtech Lab welcomed a new Research Assistant! | Le laboratoire YMHtech a accueilli un Assistant de recherche!

The YMHTech Lab welcomed Samuel St-Amour as a Research Assistant! Samuel is a M.S.c. in Kinesiology and Ph.D. candidate in Health and Society at UQAM. He is studying the effect of physical activity in individuals with psychotic and personality disorders. In addition, he is integrating physical activity promotion in the HoryzonsCa research project as well as other research projects within the lab.

Le laboratoire SMJ-techno a accueilli Samuel St-Amour comme Assistant de recherche ! Samuel a une M.Sc. en kinésiologie et est candidat au doctorat en santé et société à l'Université du Québec à Montréal. Il étudie l'effet de l'activité physique chez les personnes souffrant de troubles psychotiques et de la personnalité.

Il oeuvre actuellement à intégrer la promotion de l'activité physique dans le projet de recherche HoryzonsCa ainsi que dans d'autres projets de recherche du laboratoire.

October 27 is International Occupational Therapy Day! 

Occupational therapy is a profession committed to the well-being and development of individuals. Through their role, occupational therapists promote autonomy, foster and maintain a satisfactory quality of life, and facilitate participation in the community.

Our Director, Dr. Shalini Lal, is an occupational therapist with a wealth of clinical experience, and together with several of our Lab students who follow the same profession, they seek to enrich our research projects with a touch of occupational therapy!
